Johns Manville no longer uses paper documents in production

Johns Manville is an international company with more than 150 years of tradition, in its Slovak branch specializing in the production of glass fiber for automotive. Its plant in Trnava employs more than 900 employees, most of them directly in production. The need to find a way to share information with them efficiently and at the same time safely, led the company’s management to acquire and install 12 Ki-Wi Infokiosks. With what do they help the Slovak branch of Johns Manville?

Lack of information, less involvement

“Based on discussions with our employees, we have found out that our manufacturing staff is under-informed and, as a result of that, also less involved in the internal affairs of our company. However, for long-term success, it is crucial that everyone receives information on time and has a sense of belonging to the company. However, it was clear to us that using notice boards and paper communication was not possible,” describes the problem Jana Rafayova, Quality Management Representative at Johns Manville Slovakia.

Equipment that can withstand harsh production conditions

The main challenge was to find a communication channel that could withstand the conditions of the production hall and that could serve workers and provide information electronically without the need for a computer. The choice eventually fell on 12 interactive Ki-Wi infokiosks.

“It was also important for us to be able to connect the kiosk to our information system. Thanks to that, these days, production workers have up-to-date information on the state of production as well as the necessary production processes always available in no time,” explains Jana Rafayova.

Instant and personalized information

Besides data from the information system, the company management passes on also other current information from the field of marketing, HR or from the technical department to its employees via the infokiosks. Thus, workers are not detached from what is happening in the company and always have a grasp of what is going on in it.

Thanks to an access card that is unique to each employee, they also have access to individual work data, such as information about planned shifts, the current state of vacation or the choice of lunch from the menu for the next day. In addition, the company management can use the access cards to quickly find out if the employee in question has read the sent message, safety instruction or a required technical procedure.

Saves both time and money

Ki-Wi solutions have been used in Johns Manville Slovakia for several years. “Over the time, it has saved us a considerable amount of money for printing materials, distributing them, and even for one job that we would have to dedicate to this activity,” says Jana Rafayova. As she herself says, corporate communication is much easier thanks to infokiosks, and especially in the area of availability of personal information it gets a new dimension and possibilities.
